Polarization Filter
Normal sunlight is not polarized. It contains both s- and p-polarized parts. On smooth surfaces, such as the surface of a lake, it is mainly light components that reflect parallel to the surface. Linear polarizing filters allow light to pass through only in a set polarization direction. In technical applications, such filters can be used to generate optical switches, as they are used in LCD displays.
