Copper mirrors have a high thermal load capacity. This is why they are used where mirror substrates are heated to a high temperature, for example by the high power of lasers. As copper exhibits very good thermal conductivity, copper mirrors (with appropriate heat supply) are mechanically very stable and durable. Copper also has a very high reflectivity in the infrared spectral range. The optical properties in the visible range depend on the wavelength and can be influenced by an appropriate coating design. Glass mirrors with a copper coating also have high mechanical stability and dissipate excess heat well.
Optical copper mirrors have increased reflection due to metallic and possibly dielectric layers. We manufacture copper mirrors individually according to specifications and customer requirements.
Copper mirrors also offer cost advantages compared to coatings with silver or gold.
