Vorderflächen-Spiegel
The term "front surface mirror" is applicable to any mirror whose first boundary surface is a mirrored surface. In comparison to a rear surface mirror (mirroring of the second interface), where the passing beam is strongly reflected at the second interface and slightly at the first interface, the typical double images resulting from this beam path are avoided by using a front surface mirror. The function of mirroring is the reflection of radiation, adjustable for UV, VIS and IR range. Front surface mirrors are usually realized by applying metallic layers, since these have a high reflectivity over a wide wavelength range. Aluminum has high reflectivity over a wide spectral range. Furthermore, metal mirrors can be enhanced by additional dielectric ʎ /4 layers. For infrared diodes, copper is also recommended as reflection medium.
