Solar energy systems such as photovoltaics are expected to work and last for decades, often in harsh environments and with minimal maintenance. They therefore not only require durable materials, but also tests to test their service life. Photovoltaic modules, for example, are put through their paces in special test chambers, particularly in terms of their efficiency. But how do you imitate the natural conditions and the exact light spectrum of the sun inside the test chambers?
Solar simulators are also used to test photovoltaic modules during production. These simulate natural conditions, such as constant irradiation from a single light source.
At Bte Bedampfungstechnik, we manufacture complex filters that simulate the light spectrum of the sun in PV measurement systems. These solar simulation filters generate the spectrum of natural sunlight within narrow tolerances. As the filter converts the standard light spectrum into the sunlight spectrum, it is also known as a conversion filter.
PV measurement technology also uses front surface mirrors that can illuminate large areas. In some cases, cold mirrors are also used to reduce the heat in the overall system, for example in test chambers. Both manufacturers and renowned research institutes use our mirrors and filters for solar simulation.Even filters with a size of 1m² are not uncommon here.
The solar simulation filters enable non-destructive tests and inspections with high precision. The exact reproduction of the solar spectrum or spectral accuracy is essential. The filters can also be used to simulate natural lighting conditions or sunlight with various light sources in the laboratory, test center or production facility. This makes it possible to test photovoltaic modules and cells directly in test chambers or even within the production line.
Incidentally, not only PV modules are tested in chambers with sun simulation, but all products that are exposed to sunlight, from car components, clothing, paints and varnishes to sun cream and spectacle frames.
Conclusion: With our filters, we turn any light into sun light!
